Huntley 158 Names New Principal for Leggee Elementary School for 2026-27 School Year

Huntley 158 is excited to announce Michelle Weirich as the new principal for Leggee Elementary School effective July 1, 2026. The board of education approved Weirich’s appointment at the regular board meeting on November 13, 2025. Weirich will take over for current principal Scott Iddings, who will be retiring at the end of the 2025-26 school year.
Michelle Weirich is an experienced educator and school leader and has served as assistant principal at Huntley 158’s Martin Elementary School for the past three years. Prior to that, she was a third and first grade teacher in Peotone School District 207U for 15 years.
“We are thrilled to have Shelly step into the role of principal at Leggee,” said Superintendent Jessica Lombard. “Over the past three years, she has demonstrated her commitment to the students and staff here in Huntley. Her leadership in advancing strategic initiatives has strengthened our school community and positioned us for continued success. With her 15 years of classroom experience and deep understanding of how to support both students and educators, Shelly is exceptionally well-prepared to lead Leggee into its next chapter.”
According to Weirich, “I am deeply honored and excited to assume the role of principal at Leggee Elementary. It is a true privilege to join this remarkable team to create an engaging and supportive learning environment where every student feels valued, inspired, and empowered to reach their full potential.”
Weirich holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Governors State University and a bachelor’s degree in education from Eastern Illinois University.
